Our Story

In 1995, Sanjeev and his brother Jay Sethi opened their first location in the heart of Downtown Toronto. The location had replaced the renowned La Scala Restaurant, which was an extremely influential Institution in the city from 1960-1990.

Since then, the two have received countless accolades from prestigious institutions such as Zagat, The Toronto Star, American Express & Trip Advisor just to name a few. The Host Indian Cuisine is now 4 locations strong and has led the industry in Indian Cuisine when it comes to quality and consistency.

Mantra by Host is led by Sanjeev’s son Ashish Sethi. Ashish went for his training at the Culinary Institute of America in New York & it was here where he also had an opportunity to train with Michelin starred chef Daniel Boulud.

After losing his battle with cancer in 2019 The Host and the Sethi Family continue the legacy of generous hospitality, authentic Indian flavours & community stewardship that were set forth by our founder Chef Sanjeev Sethi.
